Deacon Ministry
The New Testament identifies two offices of the local church.
The pastor/overseer and the deacon/elder. The term deacon comes
from the Greek word meaning "to serve" or "servant." In the
early church, Acts, chapter 6, seven men were selected to assist
the apostles as they led the emerging church in ministry. These
seven men became the prototypes of the modern deacons. At Shiloh Terrace, deacons are
elected to serve along with the pastor and staff as a
ministering body rather than a governing body. A list of
qualifications for serving as a deacon at Shiloh is outlined in
the Deacon Policies and Procedures document below. |
